Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Senior Caraline Wood has been named as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England first team selection. Sophomore Marissa Gonzales and junior Mackenzie Phillips were recognized as second and third team honorees, respectively.

WPI's Caraline Wood has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III Softball Player of Year award. The senior is just one of 25 players nationwide, and the only third baseman and representative of the New England, to make the most recent list.

Pembroke's Ryan Tropeano Repeats as Google Cloud Baseball Academic All-District, as Selected by CoSIDA

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.

Senior Caraline Wood, freshman Lindsay Ambrosino and head softball coach Whitney Goldstein earned major awards, as voted upon by the NEWMAC head coaches following the conclusion of the regular season. Junior Mackenzie Phillips and sophomore Marissa Gonzales were also recognized.

After falling to Eastern Connecticut State in the double-elimination opener, WPI staved off elimination by defeating St. Joseph (CT) before being ousted by nationally-ranked Tufts.

WPI Softball claims NEWMAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles

Named Most Outstanding Player, sophomore Katie Martin pitched 13 innings and collected three victories, including a shutout, as WPI claimed its second NEWMAC tournament title in four years Saturday on Rooftop Field. After the Engineers walked off with a 3-2 victory in the first game of the day versus Wellesley they shutout MIT 2-0 to force the 'if necessary' game where the Crimson and Gray took the 5-4 triumph. Senior Renee LeClaire batted 3-for-3 with a double in the middle game while senior Caraline Wood was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored in the finale.

Rowing Quartet Earns NEWMAC All-Conference Honors

Following the NEWMAC Championship, Kinsey McNamara was honored as the NEWMAC Rower of the Year and Madison Healey was honored as the NEWMAC Coxswain of the Year. McNamara, a four time honoree, and Healey, who had been the second team coxswain in 2017 and 2018, were joined on the NEWMAC All-Conference first team by Barinelli and three-time selection Christine Hovermale.

Port Tobacco's David Larson Selected as NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week

Larson yielded one run on seven hits and two walks and struck out seven in the first 10 innings of the 18-inning 2-1 triumph over Springfield to help the Engineers secure the NEWMAC West title for the fourth time in five years.

Women's Rowing Captures Program's First NEWMAC Championship, Earns NCAA AQ

The WPI women's rowing varsity and second varsity eight won their races as the Engineers claimed the program's first NEWMAC Championship Saturday morning (April 26) on Lake Quinsigamond. In addition to snapping an eight-year reign by Wellesley, the Crimson and Gray earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III Championships May 31-June 1 in Indianapolis.

Bedford's Katie Martin Tabbed as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week (May 5)

Martin earned the NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player award after pitching 13 innings and collecting three victories, including a shutout, as WPI claimed its second NEWMAC tournament title in four years Saturday on Rooftop Field. The sophomore started her historic day by tossing an inning of relief in a 3-2 walk-off victory over Wellesley before a six-hit, no-walk 2-0 shutout over MIT. Martin then faced MIT again and went the first five innings in the 5-4 in the winner-take-all contest.

Port Tobacco's David Larson Named as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week (May 5)

Larson went 2-for-4 including a three-run home run and struck out 11 batters as second-seeded WPI knocked off third-seeded, and nationally-ranked, Babson, 5-1, in Game 3 of the NEWMAC Baseball Championship at the New England Baseball Complex. The junior belted what proved to be all WPI needed offensively in the bottom of the first.

Medway's Michael Brady Selected as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week (Apr. 28)

Brady won the 5,000-meter run at the 2019 NEWMAC Championships Saturday, April 27 at Springfield. The senior, who finished fifth as a freshman and was second each of the past two years, broke the tape with a time of 15:33.07.

Andover's Michelle Gencorelli Honored as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week (Apr. 28)

Gencorelli won the 200-meter dash (26.26) and was part of the third-place 4x100-meter relay (49.91) and fifth-place 4x400-meter relay (4:15.55) at the 2019 NEWMAC Championships Saturday, April 27 at Springfield.

North Kingstown's Andrew Whitney Tabbed as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week (Apr. 21)

Whitney won the long jump Saturday, April 20, besting student-athletes from No. 7 Williams, No. 17 RPI and No. 25 Middlebury, with a leap of 20-5.25. Earlier this season, the freshman established his collegiate best of 21-10 in the outdoor opener at Bryant.

Oakley's Marissa Gonzales Named as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week (Apr. 21)

The sophomore batted .571 (8-for-14) with two doubles and four stolen bases in a 4-0 week. Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh in game two versus Wellesley, Gonzales doubled in the tying run before touching home to end the game and extend the Engineers winning streak to nine games.

Women's Rowing Earns No. 1 National Ranking, Repeats as NEWMAC Boat of the Week

The WPI women's rowing varsity eight was elevated to the No 1 spot in the USRowing/CRCA Division III Coaches Poll and repeated as the NEWMAC Boat of the Week, as recently announced. The Engineers garnered nine of the 10 first place votes to displace defending national champion Bates, who held the position on the scroll for almost exactly two years.

Linsday Ambrosino of Chelmsford, Mass., Earns Second NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Week Honor

Ambrosino hit .615 (8-for-13) with two home runs and a double, as well as eight RBI and nine runs scored. The freshman also posted slugging and on-base percentages of 1.154 and .706, respectively. In addition to a home run in the first game of each doubleheader, including the first at-bat of the day versus Smith, Ambrosino went 2-for-3 in both games at Coast Guard and was 3-for-4 in the nightcap versus the Pioneers.

Men's Track & Field's Harris and 4x100m Garner NEWMAC Weekly Awards

Antoine Harris won the 100-meter dash (10.92) and 200-meter dash (22.00) at the Connecticut College Silfen Track & Field Invitational. His 100m time leads the NEWMAC while the 200m is second. He was also part of the winning 4x100m relay (42.19) along with junior Nick Fleury, junior Alex Rus and sophomore Matt Adiletta. It is the second time the same quartet has been honored this month.
