WPI junior Jake Wisniewski was selected as the NEWMAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore Reid Walker was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team, as voted upon by the league's head coaches following the regular season. Wisniewski was also tabbed as the team's NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship honoree.

Williams won the team title with 140 points as MIT was second (87.5), Tufts was third (67), Middlebury was fourth (57) and Bowdoin was fifth (52). Rhode Island College and Wesleyan tied for sixth (48), and WPI (44.5) finished a half point ahead of Coast Guard (44).

MIT earned the team crown with 164 points while Tufts was second (78) and WPI collected 67 points. Southern Maine (65.5) and Middlebury (64) rounded out the top five.

Tyler Marsh, Michael Curtis, Dan Wensley, Brendan Marion and Nick Day all placed in the top six at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional.

The 2019 NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Year set conference meet and open records, as well as, school records to lead the team to a third-place finish this past weekend. Nationally, the senior ranks first in the 100 back and second in the 200 back while the 400 medley relay is 10th, the 200 medley relay is 13th and the 800 free relay is 20th.

Sykes accounted for 48 individual points at the 2019 NEWMAC Championships this past weekend. The freshman appeared in three A finals, finishing sixth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.44), seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.49) and eighth in the 400-yard IM (4:39.58). Sykes also contributed on the 800 free, 400 medley, 200 medley A relays.

Hay was dominant on his way to silver at 157 at Sunday's NEWA Futures Tournament. The freshman amassed a late second period pin, a pair of tech falls by shutout and a narrow 8-7 win by decision before dropping the championship bout.

Nippert bettered her own record twice in the long jump with an 18-4 and then an 18-6.5 Saturday at Springfield. The first leap tied for 12th while the second is currently sixth on the NCAA Division III performance list. The sophomore also placed sixth at the meet with a time of 8.24 in the 60-meter dash finals after posting an 8.17 in the prelims.

The WPI women's cross country program tied for fifth in Division III and eighth across all three NCAA divisions with a 3.78 GPA as both squads were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams. Additionally five women and four men were recognized for their efforts at the NCAA Division III New England Championships and in the classroom.

Wittenberg continued his stellar senior year this past weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University by becoming the fifth fastest performer with the seventh fastest performance in NCAA DIII history in the 800-meter run when he crossed the finish line in 1:49.89. It was quite the run for Wittenberg, who hadn't clocked a sub-1:52 in the 800m in his career.

Wittenberg became the fifth-fastest man in NCAA Division III history in the 800-meter run and followed up with the quickest split amongst the members of Saturday's WPI 4x400-meter relay entry at the BU Valentine Invitational. His 1:49.89 also tops the 2019 NCAA Division III performance list and rewrites the program record book while the relay time ranks 10th on the NCAA DIII leaderboard.

Scariati averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds to go with 10 assists and five steals in a 2-0 week. After establishing a new career-high of 13 points to go with six rebounds and three helpers versus Wheaton, the freshman notched six points, seven rebounds and a career-best seven assists at Mount Holyoke.

O'Donnell averaged 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and a steal for the Engineers last week. After scoring four points and collecting a trio of caroms in 10 minutes against Clark University, the rookie netted a career-high 15 points to go with four boards in 20 minutes at Coast Guard.

Savage shot 59.1 percent (13-22) from the field, including 57.1 (8-14) from beyond the arc, in a 1-1 week. After tying her career high of 15 points at Coast Guard, the rookie went off for 20 in a setback to Babson College. In 34 minutes against the NEWMAC-leading Beavers, Savage was 7-10 (70%) and 5-8 (62.5%) with five 3-pointers.

Pawlak was dominant with four individual victories and was part of three relay triumphs at the third annual Tech Sprints. The freshman touched the wall first in the 25-yard freestyle (11.30), 25-yard butterfly (12.40), 50-yard freestyle (24.81) and 100-yard freestyle (46.29). Her 24.74 in the 50 free trials ranked third in the NEWMAClast week. The 100-yard medley relay (46.29) was the top time in the conference last week while the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.37) ranked second. The 100-yard freestyle squad, meanwhile, collaborated for a winning 46.29.

Gallant posted a trio of top 3 finishes as the Engineers hosted the third annual Tech Sprints. In addition to the second fastest 100-yard IM (53.21) in Division III last week, the senior clocked a 12.56 in the 25-yard breaststroke and a 1:00.01 in the 100-yard breaststroke. He was also part of a pair of B final triumphs with a 2:00.59 in the 200-yard IM and a combined 45.50 in the 100-yard medley relay

Mirecki was consistent with 8.5 points and eight rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Engineers. Both games also saw Mirecki shoot 57.1 percent (4-7) from the field. After notching nine points and seven rebounds in a win over Coast Guard, the freshman posted eight points and tied her career high with WPI-best nine boards at Babson.

One of four double winners on Saturday, Lind was trailing after two periods at 174 pounds before a quick strike and pin at 5:09 gave WPI the 14-11 advantage against Southern Maine. He later used an escape in the final second of his bout opposite Brockport to post a major decision (13-5) for the Engineers. The junior is tied for second on the team with 18 victories, including nine pins, four major decisions and four decisions.

Bauer handed in the fastest 100-yard backstroke (51.12) of the week in Division III and the third quickest 200-yard backstroke (1:55.00) amongst all NEWMAC student-athletes last week in a dual with Clark. Wednesday's meet also saw the senior contribute to a pair of winning relays. He followed up with wins in the 100-yard backstroke (52.33) and 100-yard freestyle (48.76), and aided another pair of successful relays (200 medley, 400 free), in a dual at Hartwick.

The junior won the 100-yard butterfly, was fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, and swam the leadoff leg for the Engineers 200-yard freestyle C relay in a double dual split Wednesday with UMass Dartmouth and Wheaton.

The sophomore notched double-digit scoring in both games last week, including a career-high 18 at Clark on Saturday. On Wednesday versus Emerson, McNamara netted 11 points, as well as, five rebounds and five assists.

Bolstered by 19 points at Clark, Walker averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds to go with seven assists, six steals and three blocks in a 2-0 week. After notching four steals against Emerson, Walker registered two steals and three blocks versus the Cougars.

Packard made her 2019 800-meter run debut a successful one as the junior clocked the No. 3 time in the country with a 2:12.56. Bates senior Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, MT), who was one spot behind Packard at last year's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, led the DIII contingent with a second-ranked 2:11.97. The race also produced the fourth, fifth and sixth ranked times on the DIII leaderboard.

The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Needing a pin at heavyweight to defeat Chicago, the Engineers nearly struck for the improbable victory when Day put his opponent immediately on his back in TB 3 but his opponent was able to just barely wiggle out and avoid the fall. Day took home a 9-6 decision but it was Maroons that took the match 23-21. He later notched a 15-0 tech fall to secure the 31-21 comeback win versus Westminster (MO).

Bolstered by a career-high 19 points versus Husson on December 16, the junior averaged 17.7 points, 6.0 rebounds to go with four assists and three steals since the last weekly update. He also dropped 19 as part of a double-double in the Tampa Bay Shootout opener against Maryville (TN).
