Worcester Polytechnic Institute Senior Hannah Brown of Kirkland Awarded 2015 Kranich Prize

The Kranich Prize is awarded annually, and it recognizes a science, engineering, or management major who best integrates the humanities and arts into his or her undergraduate experience-including course work, independent projects, and extracurricular activities. Wilmer Kranich was a professor of chemical engineering who was active in the development of the WPI Plan, and who served as dean of graduate studies for the university.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2014 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Arpin, who is the third WPI pitcher to earn the conference weekly honor this season, did not allow a run last week in all four of her relief appearances, registering a win and a pair of saves in WPI's four victories.

The boat made up of Alexa Hiznay, Emily Perkins, Jasmine Loukola, Jennifer Golden, Sarah Wutka, Abigail Sawyer, Rachel Santarsiero, Huda Gad and coxswain Robyn Quartararo captured its race at the NEWMAC championship for the third straight year.

Frederick, who was named the NEWMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Monday, won a pair of events as the Engineers handily won the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet at Fitchburg State on Saturday.

WPI Track and Field Collects Multiple NEWMAC Weekly Awards

Monday was a busy day for the WPI track and field athletes as David Frederick, Liz Pellegrini and Laura Pumphrey as well as the women's 4x100-meter relay all garnered NEWMAC weekly honors on Monday afternoon. The awards come after the Crimson and Gray swept the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday.

Rowing Varsity Eight Tabbed WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

The boat comprised of Kendell Cotton, Matt Foley, Norm Harris, Liam Rucker, Danny Singer, Matt Deptula, Keegan Cole, Jackson Krupnick and coxswain Julianna Mello bested six other boats to help WPI retain the Baker Cup for the 10th consecutive year.

WPI sophomore battery mates Lindsay Gurska and Caroline Medino swept the NEWMAC softball weekly awards, as announced on Monday. Gurska was named the NEWMAC Player of the Week while Medino was tabbed the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week.

Mike Vaitkunas of Auburn, Mass., Tabbed NEWMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

Vaitkunas, who was also named the WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week, entered the Engineers rubber game with Coast Guard in the top of the third inning with WPI trailing 5-0 and proceeded to throw seven shutout innings, earning the win as the Crimson and Gray came back to win 7-5.
