Five From WPI Baseball Earn All-Region Accolades

Steven Gallagher was honored by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com while four others were also recognized by both of the associations. Fellow sophomore Ryan Tropeano was a first team selection while junior Matt Howard was a second team pick. Joining Gallagher, who was a third teamer on all three lists, were seniors Nick Comei and Mike Duclos.

Gurska and Shevchuk Lauded as CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team Selections

Seniors Lindsay Gurska and Hope Shevchuk have the distinction of being named Academic All-America first team members, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). It is the first time in school history there have been two first teamers from the same team in the same year.

WPI Track & Field will be sending five men and two women to the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships which will be hosted by Mount Union Thursday through Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The WPI Track & Field team turned in five All-New England performances, two school records and a number of career and season bests as the men tied for 25th and the women tied for 28th at the NEICAAA New England Outdoor Championship Saturday at Williams.

Senior Kelsey Regan earned National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) All-Stewards Team honors and junior Zack Estrella repeated as Men's Rowing's New England Rowing Championship (NERC) All-Scholar Award recipient as the two groups recently handed out postseason accolades. Twenty Engineers, including the aforementioned duo, were named to the NIRC All-Academic Team.

Six From WPI Named to Inaugural Worcester Area Softball All-Star Team

WORCESTER --- WPI junior Ama Biney and freshman Mackenzie Phillips were major award winners as a total of six Engineers were recognized as part of the inaugural Worcester Area Softball All-Star Team. Biney and Phillips were joined on the All-Area First Team by freshman Cassie Graca. Sophomore Renee LeClaire and junior RiAnna May and senior Lindsay Gurska (Revere, MA) headlined the second team.

Softball's Biney and LeClaire Named to NFCA Division III All-New England First Team

Junior Ama Biney was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England first team for the third consecutive season. Sophomore Renee LeClaire also represented the Engineers on the first team.

WPI Athletics Announces 2016-17 Department Award Winners

The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses over 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports. The night was highlighted by two top award winners; Swimming & Diving's Andrew Bauer who captured the Melvin G. Massucco Award and Women's Basketball's Priscilla Dunphy who brought home the Varsity Club Award. The night also included the honorees of the Ray Cherenzia Award which highlights each teams "unsung hero".

Men's Swimming & Diving Trio Claims CoSIDA Academic All-District I Accolades

Seniors Andrew Bauer and Tim Petri, and sophomore Jack Bauer have garnered Academic All-District I accolades, as voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The trio moves on to the national ballot for All-America consideration.

Field Hockey's Shevchuk and Swimming & Diving's Day Repeat as Academic All-District I

Field Hockey senior Hope Shevchuk and Women's Swimming & Diving junior Jennifer Day each earned their second Academic All-District I at-large team nod, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. New to the conference this year, the All-Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.

Mackenzie Phillips of Gill, Mass., Tabbed NEWMAC Softball Rookie of the Year

The righty boasted a 12-5 record with seven complete games, a NEWMAC-best three saves and a 2.32 ERA in 114 2/3 innings over 28 appearances. She was second overall in strikeouts with 112 and fifth in conference contests with 46. During the regular season, Phillips' ERA dropped to 1.66 and batting average against went down .16 to .215 in conference matchups. The newcomer totaled a season-best 10 strikeouts three times, including her season finale against Wheaton, a 5-1 victory, in the NEWMAC tournament.

Phillips Named NEWMAC Softball Rookie of the Year; Four Engineers Tabbed All-NEWMAC

Mackenzie Phillips was named the NEWMAC Softball Rookie of the Year and named to the All-NEWMAC Second Team while Ama Biney and Renee LeClaire claimed a spot on the All-Conference First Team following voting by the league's head coaches. Cassie Graca joined Phillips on the All-Conference Second Team.

Callahan Repeats as NEWMAC Baseball Coach of the Year; Four Named All-Conference

Four members of the WPI baseball team were named NEWMAC All-Conference and skipper Mike Callahan was selected as the NEWMAC Baseball Coach of the Year by his peers following the regular season. Ryan Tropeano, Steven Gallagher and Nick Comei made the first team as Anthony Capuano headlined the second team.

Softball Trio Collects More Academic All-District Citations, as Selected by CoSIDA

Senior Lindsay Gurska and Ama Biney earned repeat nods while senior Hope Shevchuk earned her first distinction for softball as the trio was named to the Academic All-District I Softball team as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. All three advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

Baseball's Capuano and Tropeano Collect CoSIDA Academic All-District I Honors

Graduate student Anthony Capuano and sophomore Ryan Tropeano were recently named to the Academic All-District I Team, as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) members in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It is Tropeano's first year of eligibility while Capuano, who also earned accolades as a sophomore, takes home his second. They are now under consideration for Academic All-America laurels.

Four WPI Women's Rowers Named NEWMAC All-Conference

The WPI trio of sophomore Kinsey McNamara, junior Jasmine Loukola and freshman Christine Hovermale, and were named first team All-NEWMAC as the Engineers were second overall at the NEWMAC Women's Rowing Championships hosted Saturday by Clark on Lake Quinsigamond. Sophomore coxswain Madison Healey headlined the second team.

Women's Track & Field's 4x400-Meter Relay Reels in NEWMAC Weekly Accolades

The WPI women's track and Field 4x400-meter relay was selected as the NEWMAC Relay Team of the Week. It is the first quartet since last year's 4x100-meter relay was feted for the week ending April 3, 2016. It is also the first relay other than the 4x100 to claim the award, which also earned it twice in 2015.

Gurska and Arpin Earn Final NEWMAC Softball Weekly Accolades of 2017

WPI senior catcher Lindsay Gurska and junior pitcher Casey Arpin have been tabbed as the NEWMAC Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The last WPI battery to accomplish the feat were Gurska and Clare Doolin '16 for the week ending April 17, 2016.
