Baseball's Capuano and Tropeano Collect CoSIDA Academic All-District I Honors

Graduate student Anthony Capuano and sophomore Ryan Tropeano were recently named to the Academic All-District I Team, as voted upon by College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) members in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. It is Tropeano's first year of eligibility while Capuano, who also earned accolades as a sophomore, takes home his second. They are now under consideration for Academic All-America laurels.

Four WPI Women's Rowers Named NEWMAC All-Conference

The WPI trio of sophomore Kinsey McNamara, junior Jasmine Loukola and freshman Christine Hovermale, and were named first team All-NEWMAC as the Engineers were second overall at the NEWMAC Women's Rowing Championships hosted Saturday by Clark on Lake Quinsigamond. Sophomore coxswain Madison Healey headlined the second team.

Women's Track & Field's 4x400-Meter Relay Reels in NEWMAC Weekly Accolades

The WPI women's track and Field 4x400-meter relay was selected as the NEWMAC Relay Team of the Week. It is the first quartet since last year's 4x100-meter relay was feted for the week ending April 3, 2016. It is also the first relay other than the 4x100 to claim the award, which also earned it twice in 2015.

WPI senior catcher Lindsay Gurska and junior pitcher Casey Arpin have been tabbed as the NEWMAC Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. The last WPI battery to accomplish the feat were Gurska and Clare Doolin '16 for the week ending April 17, 2016.

Lucas Gagne of Franklin, N.H., Selected as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Gagne took third in the discus with a huge PR of 136-8 at the Springfield College Classic. The performance was better than the 130-9 he achieved last week at Coast Guard. He was also fifth in the hammer with a distance of 134-11.

Steven Gallagher of Coventry, R.I., Earns Weekly Honors

The third baseman hit .579 with eye-popping 1.368 slugging and .615 on-base percentages (1.983 OPS) in a 5-0 week for the Engineers. Five of his 11 hits were home runs for 26 total bases to go with 16 RBI and 12 runs scored. Gallagher's home run proved to be the difference Tuesday at Emerson before adding four more, including a game one grand slam, Saturday versus Coast Guard.

Renee LeClaire of Merrimack, N.H., Tabbed NEWMAC Softball Co-Athlete of the Week

LeClaire led the Engineers with a .500 batting average with a walk, four doubles, 13 RBI, six runs, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base. She clubbed three hits in game two at Smith and game one versus Wellesley, and two in game ones at Worcester State and against Clark en route to extending her hitting streak to 18 games. LeClaire was also 36-for-36 at first base.

Austin Scott of Waddington, N.Y., Takes Home NEWMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week Accolades

Scott set the 5,000-meter run record with a 14:54.49 during the elite distance portion of the Conn. College Silfen Invitational. The top NEWMAC time of the season was better than the 14:56.10 that Justin Lutz '02 handed in back in 2001. The performance was also quicker than the NEWMAC meet record time of 14:55.82 set by MIT's Sean Nolan in 2002 and would have been 10th at last year's NCAA Championships.

Sydney Packard of Georgetown, Mass., Pockets NEWMAC Women's Track Weekly Honor

Packard, who turned in a NEWMAC-best 1,500m time last week, won the 800-meter run with a new school record time of 2:13.92 during the elite distance portion of the Conn College Silfen Invitational Friday night. Her time, which qualifies for the DIII New England and NEICAAA Championships, sits atop the NEWMAC performance list and is 12th in Division III.

Freshman Nick Fleury, freshman Alex Rus, senior Brian D'Amore, and senior Hugh Whelan collaborated to clock the quickest 4x100-meter relay time within the conference so far this season at the Amherst Spring Fling. Their 43.17 is also fifth on the Division III New England performance list.

The boat comprised of Nathan Pietrowicz (Worcester, MA), Jackson Krupnick (Ashville, NC), Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Jeremy Hemingway (Westford, MA), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Frank Campanelli (Avon, CT), Isaac Beeman (Sammamish, WA) and Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY) and coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchendon, MA) edged Bates, the reigning New England Champion, 5:57.84 to 5:58.30 in Sunday's head-to-head regatta.

Doug Rives of Bethany, Conn., Pockets NEWMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week Accolades

Rives did not allow an earned run in 6 2/3 and struck out a career-high nine batters in the Engineers NEWMAC victory over Emerson on Tuesday. For the season the sophomore boasts a 4-0 record and a save in five appearances. He also touts a 1.82 ERA and 26 strikeouts.

Ryan Tropeano of Pembroke, Mass., Tabbed WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Tropeano hit .444 with a double and a triple to go with a pair of RBI and two runs scored during a 2-0 week. He led the team with seven total bases and was one of three to steal a pair. Tropeano also touted an OPS of 1.278 (.778 slugging, .500 on-base). He is batting .479 on the season with six doubles, two triples and a home run to go with 13 RBI, 29 runs scored and an OPS of 1.210 (.662 slugging, .548 on-base).
