Alyssa Grant of Framingham, Mass., Honored as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Grant was one of the Engineers winners in a competitive triple dual Saturday versus No. 3 Williams, Tufts and host Wesleyan. The senior touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.09. Grant also took fifth in the 200 (2:31.76) and sixth in the 50 (32.10).

Brendan Marion of Norristown, Pa., Named NEWA Co-Rookie of the Week for Week Ending December 3rd

Marion helped lead WPI to the team championship at the RIT Invitational as he won the 165-pound weight class. The rookie won a match by tech fall and decision to reach the semifinals. In the semis Marion defeated Vittorio Santillo of John Carroll by a 17-9 major decision before pinning Andrew Gombas of Scranton 52 seconds into the title bout.

Spencer Herrington of Clearfield, Pa., Recognized as D3football.com All-East First Team Kicker

In all, nine Engineers have now earned 10 regional accolades from the group as Herrington follows in the footsteps of Blaine Bursey, a third team kicker a year ago, and joins first teamers Mike Butler (2007), Ernie Mello (2011), Brian Murtagh (2016), also a third teamer in 2015, and Andrew Sides (2008).

The WPI men's soccer team was represented by three of the squads four captains, Connor Hoeckele, Brendan Nemes and Nate Peterson at the NEISL All-Star Game, which was played on November 26th at Brandeis.

WPI sophomore Sean McAllen has been named as a Worcester Area Football Association Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Led by three-time first team honoree senior Dereck Pacheco, 11 others were also recognized as part of the 27th annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team, as selected by the sports information directors within Worcester Country who sponsor football.

Audrey Berner of San Jose, Calif., Named WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Berner consistently led the Engineers during the three-day Gompei Invitational. On Friday the newcomer placed third in the 100-yard butterfly and followed up with a personal-best 26.66 to finish third in the 50-yard butterfly. Berner then took fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 53.60, nearly half a second quicker than her trial time.

Jack Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Tabbed as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Bauer, who claimed the 100-yard backstroke with a B cut time Saturday, secured the 200-yard backstroke with a B cut and school record 1:49.43. On Friday, Bauer teamed with sophomore Dave Chen, junior Jackson Perry, and graduate student Erick Burgwardt to hand in a B cut in the 200-yard medley relay.

WPI senior Brendan Nemes and sophomore Paul Beatty were named to the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) NCAA Division III Men's All-New England third team. The pair were previously named NEWMAC All-Conference First Team honorees.

Kristen McCrea of Weymouth, Mass., Again, Earns All-New England Accolades From United Soccer Coaches

The repeat NEWMAC All-Conference first team honoree finished fifth in goals (nine) and points (23), and sixth in assists (five) on the year. The sophomore also ranked seventh with four goals during the NEWMAC regular season, including both markers in a 2-0 victory at Smith. McCrea scored twice at Framingham State as well to go with a goal and an assist versus UMass Dartmouth, at Trinity, versus Roger Williams and at Mount Holyoke.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Hauls in Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

WPI senior Ama Biney has been distinguished as the first NEWMAC basketball student-athlete to be named as the lone offensive and defensive athlete of the week for the same reporting period. The guard was also named the WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week, as well as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week..

Sean McAllen of Prospect, Conn., Reels in New England Football Writers Division II/III Accolades

McAllen, the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and All-Conference second team member in 2016, owns the Engineers single season rushing record with 1,368 yards, currently the second-best total in the NEWMAC. He is also second in yards per game (124.4), rushing touchdowns (15) and third in yards per rush (5.7). McAllen eclipsed 100 yards seven times with a career-high 246 in the opener versus Anna Maria to go with 237 yards and two scores as a receiver.

Ben Zogby of Franklin, Mass., Honored as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

In the opening bout of WPI's trimiph over Western New England Tuesday night, Zogby surged ahead 10-9 with a takedown with about 30 seconds remaining in the third period before his opponent forced overtime by getting a point just before the final buzzer. Zogby took home the 12-10 victory with a takedown just 13 seconds into SV 1 to secure his second dual win in as many tries this season.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Selected as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

As Biney became the 18th WPI women's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Saturday, the local product tallied her third career double double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, to go with two blocks and a swipe as the Engineers defeated Bates 60-42.

Basketball Senior Class Tabbed as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Led by repeat MVP Ama Biney, who averaged 15 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists this past weekend, the six member Class of 2018, that also features Madison Beck, Maura Buckley, Brianna Dozier, Stasha Greenalch and Brittney Lambert, completed the four-year, eight-game sweep at the Worcester City Tournament.

Luca Cerasani of Abington, Mass., Named WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

The New England Bowl Most Valuable Player rolled up seven tackles featuring four for loss and two sacks, and was credited with a pass breakup as the Engineers earned the program's first postseason triumph in the 128 years of WPI Football.

Sydney Packard of Georgetown, Mass., Earns All-New England Nod. WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week Honors (Nov. 12)

Packard finished 23rd at the NCAA Division III New England Cross Country Championships in a time of 21:55.8, which was just shy of an invitation to her third NCAA Championship event in as many track & field/cross country seasons (2017 Indoor, 2017 Outdoor).

Randy Melanson of Attleboro, Mass., Claims Fifth Career NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Week Accolade

Melanson rebounded Sunday with the winning score of 276.67 on the 1-meter board and a second-place 269.85 on the 3-meter board at Coast Guard. His 1-meter sum represented his first NCAA regional qualifying score of the season. Less than 24 hours earlier, he only needed 241.81 to claim the 3-meter and was the runner up on the 1-meter at Division II Southern Connecticut State University.

Kristen McCrea of Weymouth, Mass., Earns Spot on CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-District I Scroll

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
