A handful of WPI track and field student-athletes competed at the Tufts Final Qualifier Saturday, March 4.

Four senior WPI winter student-athletes were named to the inaugural NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced as part of the league's revamped postseason award program.

Junior Ama Biney was named a repeat All-NEWMAC First Team selection and the inaugural NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year while senior Priscilla Dunphy was placed on the second team.

The WPI senior duo of Ian Converse and Sean Doncaster accounted for three NEWMAC Men's Basketball postseason awards following a series of votes by the conference's head coaches.

The trio of Tyler Marsh, Stephen Jendritz and Dan Wensley reached the podium for WPI on Sunday (Feb. 26) as the Engineers competed in the final day of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regionals at Roger Williams.

The men's 4x400-meter relay and women's distance medley relay team each set a new record as the track and field programs were busy this past weekend with the All-New England All-Divisions Championships and the BU Last Chance Meet. Individually. Freshman Sydney Packard and senior Austin Scott set school records in the 800 and mile, respectively.

WPI juniors Randy Melanson and Kristen Bender closed out the diving portion of the schedules following day two of the NCAA Division III Diving Regional Saturday, February 25th at MIT.

Sophomore Jack Bauer along with fellow members of the 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay have earned an invitation to the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, which will be held March 15 - 18 at the CISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

Honorees placed in the top eight individually or as part of a relay at the Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend.

Two individuals accounted for three titles as three relays and an individual were second at the 2017 NEWMAC Swimming & Diving Championships. Each program also set seven records.

Led by men's swimming and diving seniors Ricky Coffin and Tim Petri, and women's swimming and diving seniors Emily Martin and Abbey Nack, 28 WPI winter student-athletes were designated Academic All-NEWMAC for their work in the classroom. The swimming & diving foursome each collected their third certificate while 14 others were repeat honorees and 10 were cited in their first year of eligibility.

Paced by four-time honoree senior Austin Scott a total of five WPI student-athletes were tabbed U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic in the sport of cross country. The men's and women's programs were also recognized as USTFCCCA All-Academic teams for the seventh-consecutive year.

Converse narrowly missed averaging a double-double in the Engineers 2-0 week as he posted 23.5 points and 9.5 rebounds to go with four assists, three blocks and three steals. He began with 24 points and eight rebounds at Wheaton before scoring 23 and grabbing 11 rebounds in the season finale versus Clark. He shot 50 percent from the field in both games.

Lambert went off for a career-best 17 points, including five threes, in a triumph Saturday (Feb. 11) over Wellesley.

Converse averaged a double-double of 17.5 points and 12 rebounds in a 1-1 week.

The foursome of junior Jennifer Day, senior Eva Childers, junior Emily Matsco and senior Emily Martin began the NEWMAC championships with a runner up, and All-NEWMAC second team, finish in the record-breaking relay for the third time in two years.

Bauer, the NEWMAC Men's Co-Swimmer of the Year, collected two individual All-NEWMAC First Team accolades and three second-team nods courtesy of relay efforts at this past weekend's conference swimming & diving championships.

MacDonald posted four individual victories and swam in three top-two relays as the Engineers defeated Clark 154-103 to conclude the dual meet season with their record-tying 11th win of the campaign on Wednesday and won the inaugural Tech Sprints this weekend.

Gauthier was the lone WPI female to earn a victory this past weekend at the competitive Middlebury Invitational. The rookie launched the 20-pound projectile 49-5 to claim the weight throw. Her distance of 51-1.50 from the Wheaton Invitational is No. 30 on the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field performance list.

Melanson totaled the best diving scores of the night with a 257.25 on the 1-meter and 254.50 on the 3-meter in a midweek meet with Clark. He then swept the diving events at the Tech Sprints on Sunday with school-record breaking scores of 424.15 and 417.55, respectively. In all, Melanson now owns three of the four diving records.

Kristen Bender, Randy Melanson and Matt Suarez combined to reset all the dual meet diving records Wednesday night versus Wheaton and UMass Dartmouth.

Rodgers had a career week for the Engineers. He began with a career-best 21 points and a team-best seven rebounds to go with two assists, a steal and a block Wednesday at Clark. On Saturday, Rodgers added 16 more points, five assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block vs Wheaton. In all, the junior averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to go with seven helpers, two blocks and two assists.

Biney once again paced the Engineers in a 2-0 week, this time by narrowly averaging a double-double of 11.5 points and eight rebounds. She had a week-high of 13 points versus Springfield and posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards at Emerson. Biney also doled out four assists each game and, bolstered by seven steals against the Lions, averaged 4.5 for the week.
