Worcester Polytechnic Institute Announces 2nd Place Winners in Student AIAA Competition

For the AIAA Student Conference, students are required to submit a paper prior to presenting. A panel of judges from academia and industry evaluate papers and presentations in single and team category competitions. WPI students were competing with teams from Boston University, Cornell, Clarkson, Lafayette College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Penn State, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Named in honor of the first president of WPI, this honor recognizes outstanding performance by first-year students. To be eligible for membership, students must achieve all A's and B's (with a minimum of six A's) in their academic subjects during their first three terms at WPI.

Scholarship - 2014 May 15

Salisbury Prize

The Salisbury Prize was instituted in 1871 by Stephen Salisbury, a 19th century businessman and philanthropist who was one of the founders of WPI. Salisbury, who also served as President of the Board of Trustees, established the award to recognize outstanding members of the senior class "who have faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment" completed all course and project requirements for the bachelor's degree.

Kranich Prize

The Kranich Prize is awarded annually, and it recognizes a science, engineering or management major who best integrates the humanities and arts into his or her undergraduate experience - including course work, independent projects, and extracurricular activities. Wilmer Kranich was a professor of Chemical Engineering who was active in the development of the WPI Plan, and who served as the Dean of Graduate studies for the university.
