Senior Clare Doolin (Newton, MA), junior Lindsay Gurska (Revere, MA), sophomore Nina Murphy-Cook (Roseville, CA) and sophomore Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-New England First Team, as announced Monday. Freshman Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) made the list as a third teamer. All five were previously honored by the NEWMAC with All-Conference nods.

Junior Lindsay Gurska (Revere, MA) and head coach Whitney Goldstein became the first from WPI to be named the NEWMAC Softball Athlete of the Year and NEWMAC Softball Coach of the Year, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Gurska was joined on the first team by sophomore Nina Murphy-Cook (Roseville, CA) and senior batterymate Clare Doolin (Newton, MA). Sophomore Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) and freshman Caraline Wood (Averill Park, NY) were named to the second team.

Senior Alex Venditti (Newton, MA), freshman Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) and head coach Mike Callahan earned NEWMAC Baseball postseason awards as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Venditti was also named to the All-NEWMAC first team while senior Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY), junior Mike Vaitkunas (Auburn, MA) and senior John Mulready (Rockland, MA) represented the Engineers on the second team.

NEWMAC Champion WPI will head to Tufts for the regional portion of the 2016 NCAA Division III Softball Championship and will face CCC Champion Salve Regina 3:30pm Friday.

The Kranich Prize is awarded annually, and it recognizes a science, engineering, or management major who best integrates the humanities and arts into his or her undergraduate experience-including course work, independent projects, and extracurricular activities.

The Salisbury Prize was instituted in 1871 by Stephen Salisbury, a 19th century businessman and philanthropist who was one of the founders of WPI. Salisbury established the award to recognize outstanding members of the senior class "who have faithfully, industriously, and with distinguished attainment" completed all course and project requirements for the bachelor's degree.

Gina Gonzalez-Roundy, Kinsey McNamara and Abigail Sawyer were named to the NEWMAC Women's Rowing All-Conference First Team as the Engineers placed second at the conference championship regatta Saturday, April 23.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale after the 2015 fall semester, achieved second year academic status, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Venditti, who is in contention for the conference triple crown (1st in homers - 13; 1st in RBI - 55; 2nd in batting average - .441), slugged an eye-popping 1.056 last week, was on-base at a .700 clip (9 walks and a HBP) and successfully handled all 27 of his defensive chances.

Murphy-Cook batted .583 last week with eight runs scored as the Engineers went 7-1 on the week, including a sweep of nationally-ranked MIT.

Venditti continued his outstanding senior campaign by batting .611 last week as WPI won five of six contests and secured its second straight NEWMAC West division title.

D'Ambrosio got WPI on the right track during its series win over Coast Guard by delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Engineers to a 3-2 win in the weekend opener.

Bennett racked up 17 of the throwers 49 points to help propel WPI past Springfield and Coast Guard Saturday.

Pellegrini won both hurdle events Saturday in a meet featuring three other NEWMAC squads, Coast Guard, Mount Holyoke and host Springfield.

For the second time in three weeks the WPI men's track and field 4x100-meter relay has been named the NEWMAC Relay of the Week.

Wood posted impressive offensive numbers as the Engineers went a perfect 4-0 last week. The freshman first baseman batted .571 (8-for-14) with five runs scored and six runs batted in.

D'Amore won a pair of individual events and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay to help lead the WPI men's track and field team to the Amherst Spring Fling title.

Lambert captured the high jump with a clearance of 5-2.25 (1.58m) to help WPI secure the Amherst Spring Fling crown on Saturday as the sophomore improved two inches over her fourth-place performance last week at Coast Guard. Her height was No. 41 in Division III as of Sunday afternoon. It was Lambert's first win of the season, and third of her career, while it is her second conference weekly award in as many years.
