WPI students were inducted into the national engineering honor society.

Kang Zhang conducts medical robotics research in the COMET lab at WPI. His work contributed to two peer-reviewed journal articles this semester: In the Journal of Medical Robotics Research, he co-authored a paper introducing a Finite Element Method-based physics engine for simulating thermal laser-tissue interactions, validated through benchtop experiments to enable realistic surgical robot simulations. In the Journal of Medical Devices, he co-authored a study presenting a novel steerable optical fiber for office-based laryngeal laser surgery, demonstrating expanded anatomical access in anatomically-accurate models.

Organized by the ASM International, the Strong Bar Competition requires the contestants to design a heat treatment for a given steel grade to achieve the highest possible bend strength. This year's steel was SAE-9254 spring steel. A Worcester Polytechnic Institute student team designed a novel heat treatment involving fast quenching and a sub-zero treatment. They presented their results during the IMAT/Heat Treat 2025 conference, held in October this year at Detroit, Michigan. By designing this microstructure, they outperformed about 50 teams from all across the nation.

The Wilmer L. and Margaret M. Kranich Prize is awarded annually to the WPI student who best exemplifies excellence in the humanities and arts and its full integration into his/her undergraduate experiences.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute students participated in the Undergraduate Research Poster Presentation Session in Memphis, TN.

A group of Worcester Polytechnic Institute students completed a trip in May to Ecuador. The members of WPI's chapter of Engineers Without Borders USA worked with local residents to upgrade an aging community water system. Their trip is the subject of an episode of The WPI Podcast, and an article written by one of the students that appears in the university's magazine, the WPI Journal.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024 the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) inducted 35 WPI undergraduate students into the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Scholar Program for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This year's Great Problems Seminar (GPS) culminated with the annual Poster Presentation Day on December 11th. This event celebrates students' innovative research on a wide range of solutions to some of the world's most critical challenges. This academic year's GPS classes focused on the challenges of Climate Change, Heal the World, Our Unequal World, Recover, Reuse, Recycle, Seeking Sustainability, and Shelter the World.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute student, Tessa Lytle, is on the synchronized skating team, The Haydenettes, who recently placed 5th in the World Championships.

Camille Williams' paper "Characterization of Microwave Plasma in Electromagnetic Modeling for Processing Applications" won the Student Competition for Best Poster Presentation at the 57th Annual IMPI's Microwave Power Symposium in Denver (June 27-29, 2023).

Megan Desanty will be a Newman Civic Fellow for 2022-2023. The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who are changemakers and public problem-solvers at Campus Compact member institutions.
