Dereck Pacheco of Barnstable, Mass., Earns Liberty League Football Defensive Player of the Week Accolades

Pacheco continued his strong start to the season by posting a career-high 11 tackles in WPI's 27-10 victory over Norwich on Saturday afternoon. The sophomore defensive lineman amassed 3 1/2 sacks to increase his Liberty League season-leading total to six, and also blocked a 44-yard field goal attempt to help the Engineers move to 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

Bursey connected on field goals of 22 and 29 yards for the Engineers on Saturday The junior also registered touchbacks on all five of his kickoffs and, after an injury to the punter, deposited a pair of fourth quarter pooch punts inside the Norwich 20 yard line.

The NFCA Golden Shoe award is presented annually to the player determined to be the most outstanding base stealer from an NFCA member institution in each of the following divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC, NWAACC and high school. A committee comprised of elected head coaches in each of the 10 represented divisions selects the winner of their respective award.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship and finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
