Lindsay Gurska of Revere, Mass., Tabbed as NEWMAC Softball Player of the Week (Mar. 28)

Gurska, who also took home the honor last year (April 13) and was named the WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week earlier in the day, batted an eye-popping .615 (8-for-13) with five runs scored as the Engineers won three of four last week.

Paoletta, Marsh and Shrewsbury Headline WPI Wrestling's NEWA Award Winners

Eight WPI wrestlers have been selected All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) by the conference coaches while Tony Paoletta was named the association's Assistant Coach of the Year. Additionally, a conference-best 17 Engineer wrestlers earned All-Academic honors from the group.

Amato and Day Receive National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American Distinction

Junior Brian Amato and freshman Nick Day have earned Division III Scholar All-American honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association, Additionally the Engineers were recognized as a top 30 program nationwide, seeing their starters compile a 3.26 GPA, the 11th highest overall.

Cervelloni, Puishys & Shevchuk Lead 13 Engineers Named to NFCHA National Academic Squad

Paced by four-year honorees, Abby Cervelloni (Charlottesville, VA) and Lauren Puishys (Oxford, MA), the WPI field hockey team totaled 13 student-athletes achieving NFHCA National Academic Squad honors en route to National Academic Team honors for the 12th consecutive season. The 13 also included junior Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT), a three-time Scholar of Distinction.

Alex Venditti of Newton, Mass., Chosen as NEWMAC Baseball Co-Player of the Week (Mar. 21)

For the week the senior captain batted .462 (6-for-13) and slugged an eye-popping 1.308 while reaching base an additional five times on three walks and two hit-by-pitches and chipping in with a sacrifice fly.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Earns Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Player of the Week Honors (Mar. 16)

Biney, a sophomore center fielder from Worcester, Mass., batted .645 (20-for-31) with 16 runs, four doubles, two triples, two homers and seven RBI in an 8-2 start for the Engineers. The Holy Name High graduate drew four walks and struck out only twice, while collecting nine stolen bases.

Clyde Niba of Atlanta, Ga., Named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast Team

Niba, the NEWMAC's top 3-pointer shooter at 44.0 percent, led the Engineers with 15.4 points per game. The senior also exceled on the boards, ranking second on WPI with 6.5 boards per game. Niba finds himself in the top 10 of the conference in scoring, rebounding, 3-point percentage and blocks. Niba took home first team All-NEWMAC honors this season after being first team All GNAC following the 2013-2014 season.

Clare Doolin of Newton, Mass., Tabbed NEWMAC Softball Pitcher of the Week (Mar. 14)

Doolin went 3-0 in the circle for the Engineers during WPI's spring break trip to Central Florida. The senior got WPI off to a good start during its 8-2 trip when she recorded 11 strikeouts in a one-hitter in its opener, a 2-0 eight-inning shutout of Emmanuel.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Named NEWMAC Softball Player of the Week (Mar. 14)

After playing in the NCAA basketball tournament the Friday of departure, the sophomore batted a jaw-dropping .645 as the Crimson and Gray posted a 8-2 record. Biney registered a hit in every contest, 20 in all, including homers versus Penn State Behrend and Plymouth State.

Softball's Murphy-Cook and Biney Land on Division III National Player of the Year Watch List

WPI sophomores Nina Murphy-Cook and Ama Biney are among fifty outstanding softball players have been chosen for the inaugural NFCA/Schutt Sports Division III National Player of the Year watch list, which will be pared down in the coming weeks until just one player remains at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Rowing Varsity Eight Named WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

The boating of coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchendon, MA), Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Nick Cebry (Bedford, MA), Michael Eaton (Exeter, NH), Jeremy Hemingway (Westford, MA), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY), Nathan Pietrowicz (Worcester, MA) and Jackson Krupnick (Ashville, NC) reached the finish line in 6:09.0 to win the Class of 2003 Cup on Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond.

Katie Nugent of Huntington, N.Y., Tabbed WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Nugent made her collegiate track and field debut a memorable one by claiming a victory in the 400-meter dash (1:00.33) and teaming with Lea Strangio, Julie Tevenan, and Maggie LaRoche to win the 4x400-meter relay (4:08.45) as the Engineers captured the team championship at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

John Caliri of Hanson, Mass., Honored as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week (Mar. 28)

Caliri logged multiple hits in all three of his appearances last week en route to hitting .500 (7-of-14). The senior catcher's three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh proved to be the difference as WPI outlasted Nichols 20-15 on Tuesday.

Women's Indoor Track & Field 4x200 and 4x800-meter Relays Tabbed as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week (Mar. 7)

The quartet of sophomore Sara Velleca, senior Alex Price, senior Liz Pellegrini and sophomore Taylor Teed set the school record in the 4x200-meter relay with a third-place time of 1:43.62. Later in the meet, junior Kimberlee Kocienski, sophomore Emily Newman, sophomore Maggie LaRoche and senior Julie Tevenan teamed up to take down the 4x800-meter relay record in 9:29.13 to also finish third.

Staver concluded his sensational sophomore indoor season by earning the bronze medal in the 400-meter dash at the ECAC Championships in Staten Island in a time of 49.45.

Biney is a big reason the Engineers won a record 18 games in a row and this past weekend's NEWMAC tournament. The local product led the team with 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, and ranked third in the conference in steals with 55.

WPI has been selected as an at-large team and will face Cortland at 7:30pm in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament at Amherst College for Friday. The hosts play Husson in the other match-up of Friday's doubleheader with the two winners set to meet in the second round on Saturday evening at 7pm.

The WPI women's basketball team will travel to Scranton, PA for the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship. The Engineers will face the host Lady Royals in a double header on Friday. The other game features Marymount (VA) and Cabrini with the advancing teams meeting on Saturday.
