MacDonald posted four individual victories and swam in three top-two relays as the Engineers defeated Clark 154-103 to conclude the dual meet season with their record-tying 11th win of the campaign on Wednesday and won the inaugural Tech Sprints this weekend.

Faye Gauthier of West Warwick, R.I., Honored as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Gauthier was the lone WPI female to earn a victory this past weekend at the competitive Middlebury Invitational. The rookie launched the 20-pound projectile 49-5 to claim the weight throw. Her distance of 51-1.50 from the Wheaton Invitational is No. 30 on the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field performance list.

Randy Melanson of Attleboro, Mass., Selected as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Melanson totaled the best diving scores of the night with a 257.25 on the 1-meter and 254.50 on the 3-meter in a midweek meet with Clark. He then swept the diving events at the Tech Sprints on Sunday with school-record breaking scores of 424.15 and 417.55, respectively. In all, Melanson now owns three of the four diving records.

Chris Rodgers of Franklin, Mass., Snags NEWMAC Men's Basketball Men's Co-Offensive Player of the Week Nod

Rodgers had a career week for the Engineers. He began with a career-best 21 points and a team-best seven rebounds to go with two assists, a steal and a block Wednesday at Clark. On Saturday, Rodgers added 16 more points, five assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block vs Wheaton. In all, the junior averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds to go with seven helpers, two blocks and two assists.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Biney Bags Third NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Weekly Honor

Biney once again paced the Engineers in a 2-0 week, this time by narrowly averaging a double-double of 11.5 points and eight rebounds. She had a week-high of 13 points versus Springfield and posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards at Emerson. Biney also doled out four assists each game and, bolstered by seven steals against the Lions, averaged 4.5 for the week.

Jack Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Named NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week

Bauer averaged two individual and two relay victories in a 3-0 week for the Engineers.

Emily Martin of Penfield, N.Y., Tabbed as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Martin won three individual events and helped three winning relays in a 3-0 week for WPI. On Wednesday Martin had individual success in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles with times of 55.70 and 1:59.93, and anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.89) in the Engineers sweep of Wheaton and UMass Dartmouth. In a team triumph at Hartwick, Martin claimed the 50-yard freestyle (25.72) and contributed to the success of the 400-yard freestyle (3:46.93) and 200-yard medley (1:54.03) relays.

Lea Strangio of Watertown, Mass., Selected as WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Strangio captured the 800-meter run (2:26.15) and anchored the winning 4x800-meter relay (9:55.26), which included Maggie LaRoche, Emily Newman and Sydney Packard, at the Bowdoin Invitational.

Paul-Henry Schoenhagen of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Honored as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Schoenhagen secured the 400-meter dash title with a 50.84, which is the 17th quickest time on the NCAA performance list as of late Saturday night, to help the Engineers capture the team title at the Bowdoin Invitational.

New Year, More Accolades for WPI Women's Basketball's Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass.

Biney was a force to be reckoned with this past weekend in the WPI Holiday Tournament. She received MVP honors for averaging 17.5 points, nine rebounds and 4.5 steals. In the championship contest against Wesleyan, Biney logged seven points and six rebounds, two assists and an impressive baseline swipe in just the fourth quarter. Including the trip to Bates, Biney averaged 15.3 points, eight rebounds and 4.3 steals. It marks the third Tournament MVP award of the season for the junior guard.

Tim Petri of Eksjo, Sweden, Named WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Petri won three events, broke two of his own records and bettered a B cut as No. 25 WP defeated host Wesleyan and No. 18 Tufts, and fell to No. 9 Williams this past Saturday. Petri began by cutting .26 off his 50-yard breaststroke record with a 26.07. He then led a trio of Engineers to a 1-2-3 finish and broke his own record in the 100 with a B cut time of 56.49. Petri capped it off with another B cut performance in the 200 with a 2:04.58, just a tenth slower than at the Gompei Invitational.

Kristen Bender of Simi Valley, Calif., Tabbed as WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week

Bender posted a second place and fourth place score in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives at Saturday's road meet. The West-Coast native totaled 238.75 and 226.85, respectively. She began the month with a consistent effort at the Gompei Invitational with 11-dive scores of 354.40 and 354.25. Bender scored a season-best 268.5 on the 1-meter at Coast Guard and a season-high 271.45 on the 3-meter versus Babson, Smith and Brandeis.

Brian Murtagh of Wayland, Mass., Completes Awards Circuit with D3football All-America Honorable Mention Nod

WPI senior Brian Murtagh has been named a D3football.com All-America Honorable Mention. He becomes the program's second honoree, joining first team specialist selection Ernie Mello '12 in 2011.

Petri and Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Relays Honored by NEWMAC

Senior Tim Petri (Eksjo, Sweden) and both the men's and women's 400-yard relay teams drew distinction from the NEWMAC on Monday. Petri took home the Men's Swimmer of the Week award while each quartet was tabbed as their respective Relay of the Week.

Football's Murtagh and McAllen Highlight 26th Annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team

Senior Brian Murtagh and freshman Sean McAllen garnered major awards in the 26th edition of the Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star Team, as selected by the sports information directors within Worcester Country who sponsor football. Murtagh was tabbed the Co-Defensive Player of the Year while McAllen was selected as the Freshman of the Year. The duo was also honored with first team selections, as well as senior Chad DellaPorta and junior Dereck Pacheco.

WPI seniors Brian Murtagh and Blaine Bursey have been named to the D3football.com All-East Region team. Murtagh picked up first team accolades as a linebacker while Bursey garnered third team honors as a placekicker.

Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass., Claims D3hoops.com and WACBA Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

Biney averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals in a 2-0 week for the Engineers. She was all over the court to deliver her first double-double (20pts, 10reb) on 10-of-12 shooting with five assists and three blocks in 29 minutes at Wellesley. Biney followed it up with 18 points, seven boards, and three steals in 30 minutes at Wheaton.

Sara Velleca of Woodbury, Conn., Named WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week

Velleca captured the 200-meter dash (27.11) and was fifth in the 60-meter dash with a Division III New England Championships qualifying time of 8.18. She also teamed with Kimberlee Kocienski, Haylea Northcott and Krystal Grant to place second in the 4x400-meter relay (4:19.65) at the Springfield College Season Opener on Saturday.

Alex Rus of Newton, Mass., Tabbed as WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Rus earned a pair of golds in his collegiate debut. After winning the mile in a time of 4:30.86, he teamed with Antoine Harris, Andrew Kelly and Paul-Henry Schoenhagen to close out the Springfield College Season Opener with a first-place time of 3:31.08 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Kristen McCrea of Weymouth, Mass., Lauded as NSCAA NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Third Team All-America

The only rookie to recieve All-America accolades, and to appear on the top two regional teams, McCrea boasted Engineer-bests of 11 assists, 21 points and four game-winners following the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship. The tournament's most outstanding player, scored the double OT game-ender versus Springfield in the semifinal and added a pair of assists versus MIT in the title match. She is only the second NSCAA All-America selection in program history, joining Emily Doherty '16.

Women's Soccer Trio Tabbed NSCAA NCAA Division III All-New England

Kristen McCrea, the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, was placed on the first team while sophomore Gabi Hoops and junior Susannah Gray were named to the second team. Gray previously joined McCrea on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team as Hoops, the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Year, was placed on the second team.

Brendan Nemes of Kingston, Mass., Earns NSCAA NCAA Division III Men's Soccer All-New England Accolades

The NEWMAC All-Conference first team selection paced the Crimson and Gray with seven goals and 16 points. Of the midfielder's seven goals, he scored the game winner versus Nichols, Mass. Maritime and at Emerson. He was also one of three Engineers to start all 17 fixtures. Through three seasons, Nemes has 13 goals - five game-winners - and 31 points in a span of 56 possible games, including starts in the last 37.
