2016 Aug 4

Warren Staver has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field Team.

Paced by NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship participants, senior Liz Pellegrini, senior Alex Price, and freshman Michelle Gencorelli, five student-athletes drew recognition for their performance on the track and in the classroom. Both the men and women's teams were honored as well for their cumulative GPAs.

Price and Pellegrini claimed the accolade for the third consecutive season while sophomore Lea Strangio was a repeat selection. Gencorelli and sophomore Warren Staver made the list for the first time.

Pellegrini qualified in five events, but was nominated for her runner up performance in the 400-meter hurdles this past May. She was also eligible in the indoor 200-meter dash (28th), 60-meter hurdles (30th) and 4x400-meter relay (21st), as well as the outdoor 4x100-meter relay (sixth). Price, who was nominated in the 4x100 along with Gencorelli, was part of both relays while Strangio was also a featured member the 4x400 lineup. Staver represented the men's team in the indoor 400-meter dash (28th).

As a team, the men were second in the NEWMAC, fourth in New England, and tied for 13th nationally with a 3.42 GPA. The women, meanwhile, bested their male counterparts with a 3.44 GPA. It is the ninth year in-a-row the teams have been honored.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either of the following athletic standards: competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship and finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org. Teams must attain at least a minimum of a 3.10 GPA.
