2017 Mar 11

Warren Staver earned All-Region accolades from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association

Freshman Sydney Packard has been selected to compete at the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at North Central in Illinois. Additionally, a total of four individuals and a relay were named All-Region by the USTFCCCA for handing in a top five performance over the course of the season.

Packard is slotted 11th in the 800-meter run. Her school record entry time of 2:12.52 was achieved at the BU Last Chance Meet. It was the second time in three days Packard set a record as she helped the distance medley relay reset their own standard at the All-New England All-Division Championships. After the dust settled, Packard's time was also second in New England.

Also earning All-Region honors were juniors Abby McAdams in the pentathlon and Lea Strangio in the 800. Freshman Alex Rus earned the accolade in the 400-meter dash and, along with junior Paul-Henry Schoenhagen, junior Warren Staver and sophomore Ryan Wittenberg, was recognized in the 4x400-meter relay. Junior David Frederick earned praise for his performance in the heptathlon.

McAdams and Frederick were third courtesy of their record-setting multi-event efforts at the Division III New England Championships. Strangio's fifth-place time was logged at the BU Last Chance Meet. Rus' 400 at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational ranked fifth while the DIII New England champion relay clocked its fastest time at the Tufts Final Qualifier checked in third. The foursome was also second at the All-New England Championships, which feature all three NCAA Divisions.
