Vincent D'Ambrosio of Mahopac, N.Y., Tabbed Academic All-District by CoSIDA Membership

Vincent D'Ambrosio has earned Academic All-District laurels as voted upon by the members of CoSIDA.

WPI baseball seniors Vinny D'Ambrosio and John Mulready, and junior Mike Vaitkunas have been tabbed Academic All-District I as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in District I. All three are now on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

D'Ambrosio, a civil engineering major, is third in the NEWMAC with 153 at bats and 44 runs (48th nationally) to go along with 56 hits (fourth). The .366 hitter was named the NEWMAC Athlete of the Week for his performance during the spring break trip. A multi-time Dean's List and NEWMAC All-Academic selection, D'Ambrosio studied the impacts of tourism in Venice, Italy and designed a new building to replace Alumni Gym for his IQP and MQP, respectively. The Associated General Contractors of America WPI chapter president is also a brother in the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Mulready, a mechanical engineering major, leads the NEWMAC with five sacrifice flies while ranking third in doubles (14), fifth in RBI (35) and sixth in slugging percentage (.581). Currently on a 14-game hitting streak, Mulready has logged a hit in 30 of 35 games played en route to a .395 average. His IQP identified and proposed a new hiking trail for the Mass Audubon's Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and his humanities and arts component was in history.

Vaitkunas, a civil engineering major with a minor in business, leads the NEWMAC and ranks 38th in Division III with a 1.73 ERA as his WHIP (0.98) is third in the conference and 35th on the national stage. The local product is 6-2 with four complete games and 29 strikeouts seven starts and 10 appearances over a team-leading 62 1/3. The Associated General Contractors of America WPI chapter vice president performed his humanities and arts component on Environmental Impact of Airplanes and IQP worked on determining the profitability of a kitchen at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce food hub.

District I is comprised of Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible.
