Veroniki Nikolaki of Markopoulo, Greece, Earns NEWMAC Weekly Honor

Veroniki Nikolaki earned NEWMAC swimming and diving honors for their performance this past week.

Jack Bauer was named the NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week while Veronica Nikolaki was tabbed the NEWMAC Women's Diver of the Week.

Bauer won the 100-yard backstroke in 52.54 and the 100-yard butterfly (50.89) in meet record times at the Worcester City Championships and came in second in the 100-yard freestyle (48.21). The freshman was also a part of wins in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:27.38), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:12.00), 200-yard medley relay (1:36.45) and 400-yard medley relay (3:31.28). Bauer shared the Justin Ferris Award for the top male swimmer of the Worcester City Championships with classmate Alex Gallant.

Nikolaki grabbed WPI's only win of the weekend and won the Beth Ferraro Award as the top diver at the Worcester City Championship meet. The senior struck gold in the 1-meter dive with 456.89 points and also finished second in the 3-meter dive with 399.45 points. It was the second straight year Nikolaki took home the Ferraro Award.
