Spencer Herrington of Clearfield, Pa., Earns First-Ever NEWMAC Football Weekly Honor

Spencer Herrington claimed one of the first-ever NEWMAC Football Athlete of the Week honors which were handed out on September 5th. It is the first year the multi-sport conference is sponsoring the sport.

Dereck Pacheco was tabbed as the defensive athlete of the week while Spencer Herrington claimed special teams athlete of the week accolades. Springfield senior Jake Eglintine took home offensive athlete of the week laurels.

Pacheco amassed six solo tackles, of which four were for-loss (29 yards), including two sacks (13 yards), and a pair of quarterback hurries as he helped WPI blank Anna Maria 48-0 Friday night. It is the first shutout by the Engineers since early in the 2010 campaign.

Herrington, who came into the game 1-for-1 in career extra points, was a perfect 6-for-6 in PATs and 2-for-2 in field goals as WPI shutout Anna Maria Friday night. He connected on field goals of 33 and 30 yards and also boomed four punts for an average of 31.8 yards.
