Randy Melanson of Attleboro, Mass., Earns NEWMAC Men's Swimming and Diving Weekly Award

Randy Melanson took home a NEWMAC Men's Swimming and Diving weekly award for his performance this past Saturday.

Jack Bauer was named the conference's swimmer of the week while Randy Melanson was tabbed the co-diver of the week.

Bauer, along with his older brother Andrew, helped account for six of the Engineers eight victories as WPI cruised past Division I Providence, 201-86, and was upended by NEWMAC foe Coast Guard, 157.5-140.5, in a Saturday afternoon double dual. Bauer established a new Coast Guard pool record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.42. The freshman also won the 100-yard backstroke (52.90) tied for the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (22.23).

Melanson, who was named the WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week and was last week's outright conference diver honoree, set the school record in the 1-meter dive with a winning score of 257.95 and placed second on the 3-meter board (220.27).

WPI treks to Bowdoin for an important 1pm double dual which will feature NEWMAC foe MIT this Saturday.
