Randy Melanson of Attleboro, Mass., Earns NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Week Accolades

2015 Nov 11

WPI sophomore Randy Melanson has been named the NEWMAC Men's Diver of the Week for his performances this past Saturday and Sunday.

He becomes the first Engineer honoree since then-sophomore Matt Suarez (Needham, Mass.) claimed the award following last year's Worcester City Championships. MIT freshman Josh Graves (Tustin, Calif.), meanwhile, secured the conference's swimmer of the week nod.

Melanson swept the diving events as WPI claimed all but three races in a men's swimming and diving double-dual with Babson and Brandeis Sunday afternoon. Melanson totaled 234.80 on the one-meter and a 221.80 on the 3-meter to secure both events for the Engineers. On Saturday at the larger New England Invitational, the sophomore came in second in the 3-meter dive with a school record 237.35 points and fourth in the 1-meter dive (233.40).

WPI heads to Coast Guard Saturday for a 1pm single gender double-dual that will also feature Division I Providence.
