Randy Melanson of Attleboro, Mass., Breaks WPI Diving Record(s) in Wednesday Home Double Dual

2017 Jan 23

Randy Melanson broke at least one dual meet dive record (six dives) as all four marks were shattered Wednesday evening in a home double dual sweep of Wheaton and UMass Dartmouth.

Junior Kristen Bender unseated All-America Veronica Nikolaki as the record holder in the 1-meter with a score of 299.35 and the 3-meter with a score of 294.70. The previous marks were 286.10 and 276.25, respectively.

Senior Matt Suarez and junior Randy Melanson each crushed the previous dual meet diving records for the men's swimming & diving team. While both divers exceeded the old standards set by Melanson, Suarez took over as the 3-meter dive record holder with a second-place 280.00 as Melanson reset his own mark on the 1-meter with a runner up 284.85.

WPI hosts Clark for a Wednesday night dual beginning at 6:30 p.m.
