New Year, More Accolades for WPI Women's Basketball's Ama Biney of Worcester, Mass.

WPI junior guard Ama Biney has been named the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the Week ending, Sunday, January 1st. She shared the honor with Babson senior Jennifer Narlee.

In addition Biney was named the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Player of the Week and earned a spot on the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Weekly Honor Roll.

Biney was a force to be reckoned with this past weekend in the WPI Holiday Tournament. She received MVP honors for averaging 17.5 points, nine rebounds and 4.5 steals. In the championship contest against Wesleyan, Biney logged seven points and six rebounds, two assists and an impressive baseline swipe in just the fourth quarter. Including the trip to Bates, Biney averaged 15.3 points, eight rebounds and 4.3 steals. It marks the third Tournament MVP award of the season for the junior guard.

It marks the fourth time the guard had earned NEWMAC honors, including the Defensive Player of the Week award on November 21st and Offensive Player of the Week nods on November 28th and December 5th. In addition this is her third WACAC Player of the Week laurel and fourth time she has received recognition from NEWBA (One Player of the Week award and three honor roll selections.

Biney and her teammates look to expend their 11-game winning streak on Wednesday when they entertain Babson at 7pm in a rematch of last year's NEWMAC Tournament championship game, won by the Engineers in the final seconds.
