Melissa Daigle of Norfolk, Mass., Earns NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Laurels

Melissa Daigle has been named NEWMAC Academic All-Conference.

Led by graduate student Jaime Espinola, a rare four-time honoree, and seven three-time selections 39 WPI student-athletes were honored for the fall season. The men's and women's soccer teams each delivered a WPI-best eight nods.

In addition to Espinola, Women's Soccer's Janine Fatal and Lindsay Schneider were recognized for the third time. Senior Jane Bingel along with juniors Cierra Ford, Karina Larson and Lizzie Rooney picked up their second while sophomore Hannah Modelski was named in her first year of eligibility.

Men's Soccer juniors Pav Christidis, Jordan Finzel, Derrick Naugler, Andrew Rottier and Ryan Stokes were repeat honorees as sophomores Riley Doherty, Spencer Ralphs and Jake Steinberg collected their first conference academic award.

Seniors Kyle Morrison, Austin Scott and Nathan Stomberg pocketed their third accolade as classmate Daniel Mortimer took home his first. Jason Bugarin, James Doty and Warren Staver represented the men's cross country sophomore class.

Volleyball senior Shay Feeley and juniors Melissa Daigle and Kat Hurlock made it a perfect 2-for-2. Senior Maddy Werth earned her first as did sophomores Azita Bakhtyari and Casey Hunt..

Liz Hansen, a three-time pick, was the lone women's cross country senior. Juniors Gina Capobianco, Emma MacIntyre and Lea Strangio were lauded for the second time in as many years as sophomore Steffany Halfrey earned her first.

Senior Hope Shevchuk collected her third field hockey selection as juniors Izzy Garver and Sabrina Guzzi hauled in their second. Sophomores Zoe Schwartz and Carrie Pozaic secured their first.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2015 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at his/her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
