2011 Oct 13

Jeffrey Copeland of Jefferson, Mass. was named among 15 students at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (Mass Academy) at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) as a "Commended Student" in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2012 competition by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test. Only 34,000 nationwide are being recognized for their exceptional academic progress.

Michael Barney, Director of Mass Academy will present these scholastically talented seniors with a letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which conducts the program.

"Mass Academy is very proud of these young men and women," Barney said. "Credit goes not only to the hard work put in by our students and teachers, but to the teachers of their sending schools who worked with them along the way to prepare them well for this exam. Through a collective effort and tremendous work ethic, they have reached a high level of achievement."
