Margaret LaRoche of Silverlake, N.H., Helps Shatter Women's Track and Field Indoor 4x800-Meter Relay Record

Margaret LaRoche was a member of the record-setting 4x800-meter relay team as WPI Women's Track and Field placed second behind nationally-ranked MIT on Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.

The relay, consisting of Julie Tevenan, Maggie LaRoche, Gina Capobianco and Lea Strangio turned in a second-place 9:52.36 to better the school record by nearly eight seconds.

Each member of the relay also earned points in individual events:

Tevenan clocked a second-place 2:22.02 to qualify for the DIII NE and ECAC championships in the 800-meter run.

LaRoche placed fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:44.87.

Capobianco was fifth in the 1,000-meter run (3:14.42).

Strangio won the 400-meter dash with a DIII NE qualifying time of 1:02.64.

The Engineers head to Western Mass., for the Smith Invitational on Saturday.
