Madison Beck of Syracuse, N.Y., Claims NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week Honors

2018 Feb 14

WPI senior Madison Beck has been selected as the NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Beck averaged eight points and 5.5 rebounds, but more importantly recorded five blocks and four steals, in a 2-0 week for the Engineers. One of the steals preceded a pair of successful free throws to seal a key 52-43 triumph at Babson. The senior finished with 10 points against the Beavers before notching nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals at Clark.

The midweek game at Babson was the second consecutive contest Beck proved to be key down the stretch. The forward led all scorers with 18 points, on 7-of-12 shooting (58.3 percent), and added a key steal in the waning seconds as WPI collected a hard-earned 61-54 victory over visiting MIT the previous Saturday.

Women's Basketball (18-5, 11-3) hosts Wellesley Wednesday at 7:30pm and Emerson Saturday at 2pm in the final week of the regular season.
