Lea Strangio of Watertown, Mass., Sets WPI Record at All-New England Track and Field Championships

Lea Strangio set or helped set a school record at the All-New England Track and Field Championships held at Boston University on Friday and Saturday.

Joey Collins established the new 500-meter dash record on Friday with a time of 1:05.53 to earn All-New England status and a spot in the finals. He then shaved .13 seconds off his standard with a 1:05.40 on Saturday. Lucas Roy also helped re-write the record book on Friday with a 1:55.38 in the 800-meter run. Austin Scott set the mile record with a time of 4:15.58 and Ryan Moran bettered his own 3,000-meter run mark with an 8:36.42 on Saturday.

On the women's side, Anne Harris, Maya Rhinehart, Liz Pellegrini and Lea Strangio ran a school-record 3:55.34 in the 4x400 while Maggie LaRoche, Gina Capobianco, Kimberlee Kocienski and Julie Tevenan teamed for a school-record 9:32.61 in the 4x800-meter relay. The 4x800 time was nearly 20 seconds better than the previous mark.
