Kristen McCrea of Weymouth, Mass., Earns Spot on CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-District I Scroll

WPI sophomore Kristen McCrea has garnered CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-District I accolades, as voted upon by sports information directors from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. She is the first honoree since teammate Karina Larson and Academic All-America Emily Doherty in 2015.

McCrea, a mechanical engineering major, entered the season as a NSCAA (now United Soccer Coaches) third team All-America, as well as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, All-Conference first team and tournament MOP. The Dean's list honoree is also a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.

The program's lone 2017 All-NEWMAC first teamer is fourth in goals (nine), fifth in points (23) and sixth in assists (five) following the conference tournament. The sophomore also ranked seventh with four goals during the NEWMAC regular season, including both markers in a 2-0 victory at Smith. McCrea scored twice at Framingham State as well to go with a goal and an assist versus UMass Dartmouth, at Trinity, versus Roger Williams and at Mount Holyoke.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
