Kristen McCrea of Weymouth Mass., Earns NEWMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference Accolades

Kristen McCrea earned NEWMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Kristen McCrea, the 2016 rookie of the year, repeats as a first team selection while junior Gabriela Hoops, the 2016 defensive player of the year, repeats as a second teamer. Hoops was joined on the second team by senior honorees Sophie Gomarlo and Karina Larson.

Following the conference tournament McCrea is fourth in goals (nine), fifth in points (23) and sixth in assists (five). The sophomore also ranked seventh with four goals during the NEWMAC regular season, including both markers in a 2-0 victory at Smith. McCrea scored twice at Framingham State as well to go with a goal and an assist versus UMass Dartmouth, at Trinity, versus Roger Williams and at Mount Holyoke.

Hoops posted a 7-5-2 overall record with a 4-4-2 ledger in NEWMAC play. The junior handed in the third-best GAA (0.73) and save percentage (.861) of all NEWMAC keepers while ranking third (0.66) and second (.879) in the 10 conference contests. Four of Hoops five clean sheets came in conference action, including three in-a-row versus Emerson, at Mount Holyoke and at Wheaton.

Gomarlo paced the team with nine goals and conference with five game-winning goals, and was second in league play with two GWG. The NEWMAC markers were registered in consecutive games at Mount Holyoke and Wheaton while the senior led the Engineers in the opening weekend with the decisive goal at Salem State and versus UMass Dartmouth - which also featured a hat-trick - as well as midway through the season versus Roger Williams.

Larson, a captain and extremely reliable center back, led the Engineers to six shutouts in 16 games played. The unit also allowed only seven goals and touted a 0.66 GAA, the second fewest only to regular season and tournament champion MIT. Offensively, Larson forced an overtime draw with Babson with a late goal and notched the lone tally in a triumph versus Wentworth.
