Jenny Day, Chelmsford, Mass., Earns More Academic All-District At-Large Laurels

Jenny Day has been recognized for athletics and academics at the regional level.

WPI swimming & diving senior Jenny Day and junior Jack Bauer have been named to their respective Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Day, a three-time All-District honoree and mechanical engineering major, owns seven individual and three relay school records, including the 500-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay which were set and/or reset in 2017-18. As a sophomore, Day was the first-ever WPI woman to earn a NEWMAC title by winning the 200-yard butterfly. The senior is also a three-time All-NEWMACsecond teamer (runner up).

The Charles O. Thompson Scholar, who documented and promoted the impacts of the Melbourne Project Center for her IQP, is a three-time CSCAA and NEWMAC academic honoree. Day is also a member of Tau Beta Pi (engineering) and Pi Tau Sigma (mechanical engineering) honor societies.

A 2017 Academic All-America, Bauer is a chemistry and chemical engineering double major, a three-time department award winner and a repeat NEWMAC All-Academic honoree. The junior qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships with the third-ranked 100-yard backstroke and sixth-ranked 200-yard backstroke times. The performances also yielded a pair of NEWMACtitles and two school records. As a sophomore, Bauer earned All-America honors in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard medley relay to go with an honorable mention AA in the 400-yard medley relay.

In addition to the 100 and 200 backs, Bauer is on the wall in the 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly, and as a member of both medley relays. The 10-time All-NEWMAC performer has been honored as the rookie of the year in 2015 and co-swimmer of the year in 2016.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
