Hugh Whelan of Madison, Conn., Sets WPI Indoor Track and Field School Record

Hugh Whelan set a school record as the WPI men's track and field team opened the 2015-16 campaign with a victory at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday.

Whelan qualified for all three regional postseason meets, Division III New England, ECAC Division III and All-New England All-Divisions, as he won the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of 7.07. He was also fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.74).

The Engineers are idle until the Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday, January 16.
