Hope Shevchuk of Burlington, Conn., Repeats as CoSIDA Academic All-Distrct I Honoree

Hope Shevchuk garnered her second CoSIDA Academic All-District I at-large accolade in as many years.

Field Hockey senior Hope Shevchuk and Women's Swimming & Diving junior Jennifer Day each earned their second Academic All-District I at-large team nod, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The duo is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Shevchuk, a 2016 Academic All-America at-large, was also named to Academic All-District I Softball team just last week. She is a six-time NEWMAC All-Academic honoree and four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction. The chemical engineering major helped develop an autism diagnostic app at the New Zealand project center for her IQP. Shevchuk is also a peer tutor, Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society president and a member of Active Minds and Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. This past fall, Shevchuk led the Engineers with eight goals and 19 points as a midfielder.

Day, a mechanical engineering major, was on the NEWMAC runner up 800-yard freestyle relay team which set a school record, as did the 400-yard freestyle relay. The owner of 10 school records set the 200-yard, 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle records at this year's conference meet. She won the 200-yard butterfly as a sophomore and was a runner up with the 800 free team in 2015. The CSCAA Scholar All-America, and Charles O. Thompson Scholar, documented and promoted the impacts of the Melbourne Project Center for her IQP. Day is also involved with the campus chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable) and he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
