NEWMAC Champion WPI will head to Tufts for the regional portion of the 2016 NCAA Division III Softball Championship and will face CCC Champion Salve Regina 3:30pm Friday.

In addition to the Engineers (35-7) and Seahawks (24-16), the four-team regional features the three-time defending national champion Jumbos (29-10) and NECC Champion Becker (27-10). WPI and Tufts met in last year's super regional round en route to the Jumbos third consecutive national championship.

The winner of the Tufts regional will take on the winner of the Williams regional which includes the NESCAC champion Ephs (32-9), GNAC Champion Johnson & Wales (31-10), NEWMAC runner up MIT (28-11) and LEC Champion Western Connecticut State (23-7) in the supers.

The Engineers won the regular season and tournament titles for the first time in the NEWMAC era. The program shared the 1991 NEW 8 regular season crown and went on to win the tournament before claiming the 1993 NEW 8 regular season title outright. Sunday's 1-0 eight-inning triumph versus MIT also set a WPI record for single-season wins in any sport.
