Emily Richardson of Portland, Ore., Earns Women's Rowing Accolades

Emily Richardson has earned women's rowing accolades from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) and/or ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) Stewards.

Led by Maggie Freed and Corre Steele, nine WPI women's rowers were named CRCA Scholar Athletes and an ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) Stewards All-Academic honorees. Four others were recognized by the ECAC while senior Emily Hofmeister picked up All-ECAC rowing honors for the Engineers.

Both Freed and Steele garnered honors by both organizations in all three years of eligibility. Hofmeister and SaraBeth Leach, a 2013 CRCA honoree, distinguished themselves by taking home ECAC accolades all three years in addition to CRCA laurels this spring. Kristin Olson and Anisa Swei picked up hardware from both organizations in 2015 as Olson repeated as an ECAC winner and Swei repeated as a CRCA honoree.

Also taking home honors from both groups were Audrey Allen, Jennifer Golden and Victoria Loehle. First time ECAC honorees featured Rebecca Barolli, Kayla McAvoy, Nicole Quintal and Emily Richardson.

CRCA Scholar Athletes must have met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution: obtain a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year), been in her second, third, or fourth year of eligibility, rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event and the Head Coach of the student-athletes institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2015.

To receive ECAC All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

A total of 39 men's and women's student-athletes were chosen from 24 institutions as All-ECAC. Coaches from each member institution selected a deserving member from their respective crews to be honored.
