Emily Newman of North Easton, Mass., Named NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year

WPI freshman Emily Newman was named the 2014 NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year for her performance at the conference championship this past Saturday at Smith College.

Newman was the top finishing rookie with a 17th-place time of 19:18 to claim the annual honor. In addition to becoming the first WPI student-athlete, from either gender, to earn a major cross country award from the conference, Newman snapped MIT's streak of seven rookie of the year awards in-a-row.
