Emily Newman of North Easton, Mass., Earns USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Laurels

Emily Newman was one of six WPI cross country student-athletes to earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Individual status for their work inside the classroom and on the course.

The Engineers were led by three-time honorees junior Austin Scott and senior Julie Tevenan.

Scott, along with graduate student Ryan Moran, freshman Michael Brady and sophomore Justin Trott achieved a 3.30 GPA or higher and finished in the top 25 percent at the NCAA regional as did Tevenan and sophomore Emily Newman. On the course, Scott finished 30th and earned an NCAA Division III Championships berth where he placed 68th in the nation. Moran was 40th, Brady was 61st and Trott was 92nd while Newman was 79th and Tevenan was 84th.

Both the men's and women's squads were named All-Academic Teams for accumulating a 3.10 GPA and competing in at least five different meets with at least five runners representing their school at each. The men's team boasted a 3.52 GPA to place second among the NEWMAC teams participating in the awards program, and tie for 19th among 155 teams, while the women touted a collective 3.43 GPA.
