Emily Newman of Easton, Mass., Selected NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

2015 Sep 29

WPI's Emily Newman has been named the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. The sophomore was tabbed the WPI Women's Student-Athlete of the Week earlier in the day.

Newman became the fourth different WPI runner in the last eight years to capture the Worcester City meet when she finished the 5K course in a time of 19:46.5. The sophomore helped the Engineers regain the city title as the Crimson and Gray have now logged the individual winner seven times in the last eight years.

It is the first weekly accolade for the Engineers since Julie Tevenan (Weymouth, Mass.), this year's Brian Savilonis Award winner for top placing senior at the city championship, took home her second of the season on October 27, 2014.

Cross Country is idle until the All-New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on October 10.
