Emily Doherty of Shrewsbury, Mass., Tabbed NEWMAC Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week

2015 Oct 5

WPI senior Emily Doherty has been named the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week. It is believed to be the first weekly award hat trick - season and career - in program history. She shares this week's accolade with Emily Smith (Winchester, Mass.) of Smith.

Doherty, the league-leader in goals and points, scored in each of WPI's NEWMAC contests last week. The senior forward began her week with a goal in the Engineers 2-2 overtime tie with Babson on Tuesday in a match-up of regionally-ranked squads. Doherty then notched what proved to be the game-winner in WPI's 2-0 shutout of Emerson. That goal moved her into a tie with former teammate Megan Forti for second place all-time in career goals.

WPI (8-2-1, 2-1-1 NEWMAC) hits the road for a 7pm NEWMAC match at Coast Guard on Tuesday.
