Emily Doherty of Shrewsbury, Mass., Named to NEWMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference First Team

Junior Emily Doherty was selected to represent WPI on the NEWMAC Women's Soccer All-Conference First Team, as voted upon by the league's head coaches following the regular season.

Doherty led the league in goals (12), including a perfect 3-for-3 in penalty kicks, and tied for first with 27 points. The co-captain notched game-winners against Southern Maine, Fitchburg State, Framingham State, and Wellesley. She also helped setup the initial tally in the 2-1 overtime win versus Wheaton as the Engineers topped the Lyons for the first time since 1998.

"Emily found her stride during her junior campaign," noted head coach Steph Schafer. "Her consistent work ethic and natural nose for the goal proved to be a major asset for the Engineers offense this season."

WPI posted an 8-7-4 overall record and a 5-2-3 ledger in conference matches in Schafer's second year on Boynton Hill. Over the course of the season, the Engineers defeated Wheaton for the first time since 1998 and enjoyed a program-best five-game unbeaten streak (3-0-2) en route to claiming the fifth seed in the 2014 NEWMAC Women's Soccer Championship.
