Emily Doherty of Shrewsbury, Mass., Earns Back-to-Back NEWMAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Accolades

2015 Sep 14

WPI senior Emily Doherty has earned back-to-back NEWMAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, as announced Monday afternoon.

It is believed to be the first time a member of the women's soccer team has been recognized on consecutive weeks while Doherty became the fifth different women's soccer student-athlete to earn a NEWMAC weekly award in the past decade with her accolade a week ago. The last time the Engineers took home multiple awards in a season was in 2013 when Courtney Langley took home offensive honors on September 16 and Natalie McMillan claimed defensive accolades on October 7.

Doherty continued her sizzling start to her senior campaign with two goals in each of WPI's two matches this past week. The forward netted two goals and chipped in with an assist in a 7-1 road win at 2014 ECAC Division III champion Framingham State before notching a marker in each half of the Engineers 5-0 home shutout of Fitchburg State. Doherty leads the NEWMAC scoring race with nine goals and 20 points this season.

Women's Soccer heads to city-rival, and 2014 NCAA tournament participant, Worcester State (2-1-1) for a 7pm clash on Tuesday.
