Dereck Pacheco of Hyannis, Mass., Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District I Football Team

Dereck Pacheco was one of two members of the WPI football team to garner CoSIDA Academic All-District I Football honors as selected by member sports information directors from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

Junior Kevin Lynch, who was one of three Engineers honored in 2014, is a mechanical engineering major and three-year starter at strong safety. On the field, Lynch is third on the team, and tied for sixth in the Liberty League, with 50 tackles - 41 solo - to go along with a pair of interceptions, six pass breakups and a forced fumble. The Dean's List honoree, Liberty League All-Academic team member and Charles O. Thompson Scholar is also a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. Lynch's IQP is named "Fire Attack Hose Phase II."

Sophomore Dereck Pacheco is a civil engineering major who is second in the Liberty League with 7.5 sacks and fourth on the team with 45 stops, including 30 unassisted and 10 for-loss. He also has a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two pass breakups to his credit. He was cited by the Liberty League. D3football.com and ECAC for his 11 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a blocked field goal against Norwich. The Liberty League All-Academic team honoree is also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Football (6-3) heads West on the Mass. Pike Saturday for a noon Liberty League kickoff at Springfield.
