Coral Gables Resident Conrad Ruiz Awarded Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Two Towers Prize for 2016

2016 May 4

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Conrad Ruiz of Coral Gables, Fla., a junior majoring in biomedical engineering, was awarded the university's Two Towers Prize.

The Two Towers Prize is awarded annually to students who best exemplify "Theory and Practice"-the guiding principles of a WPI education-through their academic excellence, outstanding campus leadership, and through their work on research and projects.

"Conrad has an excellent academic record and been an outstanding leader on our campus," said dean of undergraduate studies Arthur C. Heinricher. "His academic work is driven by a desire to solve problems that will help make life better for many people. He starts with important problems and then asks, 'What do I need to know and how do I apply it to the task at hand?' Whether the task is finding ways to use fibrin threads to help burn victims heal more quickly or designing a leadership program that can change a community, he uses practical problems to drive his learning.

He is the president of his fraternity and he has been a community advisor for first-year students. He is a member of the Student Support Network and has helped develop the ETHOS program to help fraternity men prevent sexual violence. He has made significant contributions to the WPI community and we are proud to recognize him with the Two Towers Prize."
