Burlington, Conn., Resident Hope Shevchuk Repeats as Academic All-America, Earns Second Honor of Academic Year

WPI senior Hope Shevchuk has been tabbed as an Academic All-America at-large second team selection, as voted upon by select members of the College Sports Information Directors Association of America. The 2016 at-large third teamer was also recently named to the softball first team.

It is believed Shevchuk accomplished a rare feat and is perhaps the first to earn a pair of CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in different sports in the same year while carrying a 4.0 GPA.

Shevchuk is a six-time NEWMAC All-Academic honoree and four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction. The chemical engineering major, and Salisbury Prize recipient, helped develop an autism diagnostic app at the New Zealand project center for her IQP. Shevchuk is also a peer tutor, Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society president and a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.

This past fall, Shevchuk led the Engineers with eight goals and 19 points as a midfielder. She followed it up by batting .337 with five doubles. 23 singles, 14 RBI, 21 runs scored in 38 games played. Defensively, she was .951 in 123 chances and was a part of five double plays.

Today's announcements bring the department total to six CoSIDA Academic All-Americas, which ties the annual record, with four remaining on the track & field national ballot.
