Brian Murtagh of Wayland, Mass., Tackles D3football.com All-East Region Honors

2015 Dec 10

WPI junior Brian Murtagh was named to the D3football.com All-East Region Third Team. He is the eighth Engineer to be recognized in the 11-year history of the award, and fifth under Head Coach Chris Robertson, joining Tim Grupp '14 in 2013, Ernie Mello '12 and John Perron '12 in 2011 and Tyler Lapierre '11 in 2010.

A repeat All-Liberty League first team honoree, Murtagh finished second among the league-leaders, and 39th nationally, in solo tackles per game (5.9) and third (61st nationally) in total tackles (9.7). He led the Engineers with 97 stops to go along with 4.5 for-loss, a pair of fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a pass breakup. The middle linebacker took home the Robert Pritchard Award for his 11 tackles, of which 10 were solo, and a tackle for-loss on Homecoming against RPI.

WPI, who finished the 2015 campaign with a 7-4 record, posted the most wins since 1992 and played in the ECAC Presidents Bowl, its third postseason game in the 126-year history of the program.
