Brian Murtagh of Wayland, Mass., Completes Awards Circuit with D3football All-America Honorable Mention Nod

WPI senior Brian Murtagh has been named a D3football.com All-America Honorable Mention. He becomes the program's second honoree, joining first team specialist selection Ernie Mello '12 in 2011.

The Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star First Team pick and Co-Defensive Player of the Year was recently named to the D3football.com All-East Region and First Team, collected his third first team nod to go with his three All-Liberty League first team accolades and his second New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team selection.

The league leader in total tackles (118), solo tackles (80) and tackles per game (11.8) made double-digit stops in eight of 10 games with a season-high 15 at MIT and again against Union. He also totaled 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, an interception and three pass breakups on the season. For his career, Murtagh amassed 378 tackles with 242 solo 24.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, six interceptions, 10 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Football (6-4) wrapped up its stay in the Liberty League and will begin play in the NEWMAC next fall.
