Brendan Marion of Norristown, Pa., Named NEWA Co-Rookie of the Week for Week Ending December 3rd

2017 Dec 12

WPI freshman Brendan Marion has been selected as the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 3rd. The 165-pounder shared the honor with Dylan Da Silva (Bayville, N.J.) of Plymouth State.

Marion helped lead WPI to the team championship at the RIT Invitational as he won the 165-pound weight class. The rookie won a match by tech fall and decision to reach the semifinals. In the semis Marion defeated Vittorio Santillo of John Carroll by a 17-9 major decision before pinning Andrew Gombas of Scranton 52 seconds into the title bout.

On the season to date, Marion is 10-3 overall with five falls, a tech fall and a major decision.

Marion is the first WPI wrestler to earn Rookie of the Week accolades since Tyler Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, Pa.) picked up the honors last November. Ironically Marsh was WPI's other individual winner last weekend at RIT.
