Austin Scott of Waddington, N.Y., Selected to Compete in NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships

2015 Nov 16

WPI junior Austin Scott has been selected to participate in the 2015 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, which will be hosted by Wisconsin Oshkosh, this Saturday at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin.

He becomes only the second Engineer to make the national championship field, joining WPI Hall of Fame inductee Dave Berthiaume '91 who finished 59th at the event in 1990.

Scott earned All-New England status with a 30th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Regional on Saturday to become one of 56 individuals nationally, who were not part of a qualifying team, to earn a berth to the title meet.

The repeat All-NEWMAC honoree placed seventh at the conference championships and was 36th at the All-New England All-Division Championships. He opened the campaign with a fourth-place effort at the Bowdoin Invitational and later won the Worcester City Meet individual title. Scott also finished sixth at the Conn. College Invitational.

With Scott leading the way, the Engineers reclaimed the city title and posted a program-best 10th-place finish at the regional meet. He also helped the Crimson and Gray set the program record for fewest points in the teams runner up finish at the NEWMAC Championships.

The men's race begins at 1:30pm Eastern and will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
