Ariana Rozen of Carver, Mass., Earns USTFCCCA Cross Country Academic Honors

A total of eight WPI student-athletes, including Ariana Rozen, earned a spot on the USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Team for their work inside the classroom and on the regional championship course. Collectively, the men and women were feted for the eighth consecutive year.

Senior Emily Newman, a 2014 and 2015 honoree, was joined by senior Lea Strangio, also a 2014 selection, sophomore Sydney Packard, sophomore Ariana Rozen and freshman Keely Nistler. As a team, the women boasted a record 3.7 GPA, which was tied for 19th overall and third in the NEWMAC. The top conference teams were separated by .02.

The men were paced by senior Tristam Winship who earned his second in as many years. Sophomores Tom Hanlon and Jake Scarponi were also key in helping the team tout a 3.46 GPA, which was good for second in the NEWMAC and a tie for 39th out of 167 teams.

Student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional meet and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.
