Andrew Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Part of WPI Men's 400-Yard Freestyle Relay That Finished 18th at NCAA Championships

2015 Mar 23

Andrew Bauer was part of the WPI men's 400-yard freestyle relay team that narrowly finished 18th on the final day of the Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.

Alex Powers, Nathan Hughes, David Smallwood, and Andrew Bauer collaborated to finish 18th, just two spots shy of another honorable mention All-America nod, in a time of 3:04.56. MIT, which had many student-athletes finish the day on Alternate Island, finished .46 seconds ahead of the Crimson and Gray to snag the first alternate spot.

Bauer began the day with a 29th-place time of 45.55 to better his own standard in the event. His previous mark was set at last month's NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Men's Swimming and Diving went 10-0 in dual meet competition for the first undefeated season in program history under 11th-year head coach Paul Bennett. The Engineers also repeated as Gompei Invitational Champions and won their third consecutive Worcester City Championship. Additionally, the Crimson and Gray boast a 16-0 home record since the Sports & Recreation Center opened in 2012.
