Andrew Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Named WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week

Andrew Bauer from the swimming and diving team has been tabbed as the WPI Men's Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, January 18th.

Bauer guided WPI to its third straight Paul Parenteau trophy in winning the Worcester City Meet. The sophomore took home the Justin Ferris Award as the top male swimmer by winning all three freestyle sprints and taking part in four relay victories. Bauer claimed the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.50, and he followed it up by finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.82) and 200-yard freestyle (1:46.95).

He also swam on the on the meet record-breaking 400-yard medley relay team (3:36.13) and was a member of 200-yard freestyle relay (1:29.89), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:18.03) and 800-yard freestyle relay (7:15.63) that all garnered city championships.

The squad returns to action Wednesday with a trip to UMass Dartmouth for a double dual that includes Wheaton. The meet is slated to get underway at 6:30 p.m.
