Andrew Bauer of Cumberland, R.I., Named CollegeSwimming.com D-III Preseason All-America

2016 Sep 8

WPI swimming & diving senior Andrew Bauer has been named a preseason All-America by CollegeSwimming.com, as announced earlier this week.

Bauer, who owns seven school records, was selected in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle. He won the NEWMAC title in both events before touching the wall first in the consolation finals at last season's NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships. Overall, Bauer finished ninth but clocked the fifth fastest time in the 100 and would have tied for sixth in the 200 at the national event. Bauer also set the standard in the 50-yard freestyle and was a member of the record-setting 400-yard freestyle and 800-freestyle relays.

Selections were based on the times of both returning and incoming swimmers with input from coaches and sports information contacts.

The Engineers are slated to open the 2016-17 season at the Worcester City Championships on October 29.
